The all-in-one software enabling legal teams to manage all legal matters

The first investment from a new fund can set the tone for everything that follows. That’s why we chose LawVu as the opening investment for Growth Fund 6, leading its Series A extension with a NZ$15 million commitment.

The story of LawVu
LawVu was founded by Sam Kidd and Tim Boyne to address a broader shift already underway across enterprise software, where core business functions have moved into dedicated SaaS platforms — from finance (NetSuite) to HR (Workday) and marketing (HubSpot).

The company was a standout, NZ, SaaS company operating at global scale, with strong momentum across key markets (ANZ, UK and US). It had previously raised a Series A from Insight Partners in the US in 2021 and was returning to market seeking a trusted local partner for its next stage of growth.

Legal work inside most organisations wasn’t broken, but it was highly fragmented. Matters arrived through email. Contracts moved as attachments. Requests lived in spreadsheets. Knowledge sat in inboxes. In-house legal functions were still early in their software evolution, with significant whitespace still available for platforms capable of consolidating and defining the category.

The solution
The LawVu platform created this single source of truth. Removing the need to bounce from system to system while facilitating workflow management, legal content creation, and most importantly; connecting in-house legal teams to their wider businesses.

The investment case
It remains uncommon to see a Kiwi SaaS company at this stage successfully building global customer traction in a category still forming.

At the time of investment, LawVu had excellent year-on-year growth, a SaaS-level gross margin, had  created a strong moat being a system of record and had a top-tier management team already in place.

We invested as the company continued to scale internationally and deepen its product capability.

The capital is being used for the development of AI-enabled features that aim to improve operational efficiency, strengthen collaboration, and support higher-value legal work.

Final thoughts

This transaction reflected Movac’s position as a preferred investor in the New Zealand growth-stage market. LawVu didn’t run a formal process for the round, instead engaging with us directly, following a series of conversations grounded in our experience scaling vertical SaaS companies from NZ (e.g. Vend, Unleashed, and Timely). Thanks to them and our team, we’re excited to scale LawVu together.
