Solving complex healthcare rosters with world-leading tech

Founders of RosterLab – Daniel Ge, Sunny Feng, and Dr. Isaac Cleland, PhD.
Technology’s greatest impact will come from augmenting people. Helping organisations unlock greater efficiency while enabling teams to perform at their best. That’s why we were convicted in leading RosterLabs’ seed round with a $1.5m investment in their $1.75m round, through our Emerge Fund 4.
The story of RosterLab
RosterLab has developed an AI-optimised rostering and scheduling tool, based on co-founder Dr Isaac Cleland's PhD thesis on scheduling algorithms.
Hospitals worldwide have been let down by popular HRIS software, and despite investing in systems designed to handle workforce management, most weren’t designed to handle the complexity of clinical rostering. Therefore, many clinicians responsible for rostering have resorted to Excel, a reliable yet inefficient tool for this repetitive task. While generating the initial roster schedule was complex enough, it became even more complicated when a staff member was unwell or an unexpected event occurred.
The solution
Rather than digitising the old manual process, RosterLab has rebuilt rostering around optimisation. Their algorithm allows healthcare organisations to generate and schedule complex staff rosters within minutes. The tool saves approximately 90% of the total rostering time and improves staffing efficiency and staff retention.
The investment case
The company was in the early stages of commercialisation but had already gained traction with 12 customers when Movac first invested. Having secured funding, the team will expand to include a dedicated sales team, while new product features and partnerships with other healthcare software companies will be developed in parallel.
Final thoughts
We were pleased to see Movac Partner, David Beard join the Board as Investor Director, and can’t wait to see where Isaac, Sunny, and Daniel take RosterLab next – we’re thrilled to be along for the journey.
